An urban area (UA) is a type of geographic unit used by Statistics Canada to disseminate census data.[1] It is any grouping of contiguous dissemination areas that has a minimum population of 1,000 and an average population density of 400 persons per square kilometre or greater.[2]
As of the 2006 Census of Canada, the Province of Alberta had 107 urban areas[3] with a cumulative population of 2,699,851 and an average population of 25,232.
